Buccellato

Buccellato is a typical pastry of Sicilian cuisine. The crown-shaped cake is traditionally served on Christmas Day.

Preparation

For the pastry flour, butter, sugar and some Marsala are processed into a uniform mass.

For the filling, dried fruits such as figs and sultanas chopped, chopped and toasted almonds and nuts, dark chocolate, grated lemon peel and cinnamon are topped with Marsala, heated, and also made ​​into a uniform mass.

Then, the sheeted dough is coated with the filling, rolled, scored and closed to form a ring. After baking, the cake is brushed with egg yolk, sprinkled with pistachios and decorated with candied fruit.
