Buccheri

Buccheri is a city of Syracuse in Sicily region of Italy with 2094 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Buccheri is 56 kilometers west of Syracuse. The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Buscemi, Carlentini, Ferla, Franco Fonte, Giarratana (RG) and Vizzini (CT).

History

The place from the Middle Ages was destroyed in the 1693 earthquake. Buccheri was built on the same site.

Attractions

The Madeleine church is located in the main street. The facade dates from the 18th century. The Church is the work of Michelangelo di Giacomo. Inside is a statue of the Magdalene from 1508th Saint'Antonio The church dates from the 18th century, the stairs in front of the church was built in 1911. Inside there are two paintings of Borremans. The stucco on the vault dates from 1760 and was created by Gianforma.

South of the town lies the Monte Lauro, with 986 meters the highest mountain in the Iblei.
