Buchfart

Buchfart is a municipality in the southern part of the Weimar area and part of the joint management Mellingen.

Geography

The local situation of Buchfart is located about 17 kilometers southwest of the county town Apolda and about 7 kilometers south of the city of Weimar in the transverse valley of the Ilm. The highest elevation is considered the balsam ( 340.6 m above sea level. NN ), an arm of the Rosenbergs ( 379.9 m above sea level. NN ), which, however, already belongs to the hallway of the Weimar hamlet Legefeld.

History

On the northern banks of the Ilm the site had attracted the undercut slope already in the Neolithic and later to colonize, proved by archeological findings.

The place name Buchfart refers to an important ford place in Buchenwald. The place was first documented in 1348 with Lutolf of Heitingsburg residence in Buchverte mentioned. The counts of Orlamünde had at this time the suzerainty in Buchfart, this came in 1395 to the Counts of Schwarzburg. Apparently served the rock castle and the Buchfarter Ilmfurt a Altstrasse, immediately adjacent to the castle the steep slope of the Ilmtales climbed here, the necessary retaining walls and remains of sunken roads should still have been recognized in the 19th century in the undergrowth. The rock castle Buchfart also attracted researchers. Castle Rock

The cliffs opposite the local situation of Buchfart are probably already begun in the 10th century by progressive erosion in constant change, the rock castle located there is referred to in the literature as rock castle, with the expansion of the plant. Ilm- Bridge and Mill

Village Church

Balsamine

The scenic beauty of the Ilmtales at Buchfart led to the designation as a " conservation area average Ilm valley ". Began early in the 18th century a lively tourist industry.
