Buchillon

Buchillon ( [ byʃijɔ ], Provençal in the local dialect [(a) buʦəjɔ ] or [( a) buʦəʎɔ ] ) is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Buchillon is located on 398 m above sea level. M., 7 km southwest of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). This former farm extends on a terrace east of the river Aubonne, a scenic location about 30 m above the lake level of Lake Geneva.

The area of ​​2.1 km ² large municipality area includes a section on the north shore of Lake Geneva. The communal land extends from the narrow riparian strips northward up to the terrace of Buchillon, on 410 m above sea level. M. the highest point of the municipality is reached. The eastern boundary is formed by the Bach Ruisseau des Chenaux, in the west, the area extends as far as the course of the river Aubonne that has piled up at its mouth in Lake Geneva in the course of time an alluvial fan. Population

With 638 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Buchillon one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 82.0 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 7.5 % and 3.3 % in English (as of 2000). The population of Buchillon amounted in 1850 to 176 residents in 1900 to 203 inhabitants. Since 1960 (284 inhabitants ) continued rapid population growth, with a doubling of the number of inhabitants within 40 years.

Economy

Buchillon was until the mid-20th century, a predominantly coined by farming village. Even today, agriculture and viticulture (especially on the southern slopes below the village ) a certain significance in the occupational structure of the population. History

The territory has been inhabited since very early, which is confirmed finds of remains of a lake settlement, a dagger and spear heads. Also from the Roman era ruins are preserved. The first documentary mention of the place Chanivaz was in 1228 under the name Chanliva; it was the larger and more important settlement than the 1339 Buschillion called in the Middle Ages.

Buchillon belonged to the lords of Aubonne and attained a degree of prosperity in the Middle Ages thanks to the customs office at the bridge over the Aubonne. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 Buchillon came under the administration of the bailiwick of Morges, where Allaman held the high justice. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 Buchillon was initially assigned to the District Aubonne and came in 1803 to the district of Morges.

Attractions

In the center of Buchillon some typical arable and wine houses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.
