Buchis

Buchis is the holy bull of Hermonthis ( Armant ) and Medamud in the fourth Upper Egyptian nome - what- scepter and is represented with black head and white body.

History

Before Buchis was referred to as a bull since the 11th Dynasty, he was in Armant a very early form of the god Month, or a living image of the goddess. Furthermore, he was regarded as a manifestation of Re. In Medamut he was an oracle animal. The veneration of this animal was one of three great bull cults. In the 30th Dynasty and the following names were in use for Buchis: The beautiful soul, mind and body, and the lofty Taurus, the noble Great.

Finds

A burial site of Buchis Bulls could be localized in Armant: the so-called Bucheum, which dated to the 30th Dynasty and is now destroyed.
