Buckwheat Zydeco

Buckwheat Zydeco ( born November 14, 1947 in Lafayette, Louisiana; actually Joseph Stanley Dural, Jr.) is an American zydeco accordionist

Life

Stanley Joseph Dural grew up as the fourth child of a 13-member family who led a farm in the area of Lafayette. At age ten, he had his first appearances on the piano.

In 1971 he founded the funk band Buckwheat & the Hitchhikers, which he headed for five years. He then moved to Zydeco, although he declined this style of music in his youth. As Hammond organist, he played the first two years in the Red Hot Louisiana Band of Zydeco King Clifton Chenier. In 1978, he learned to play the accordion and 1979 he founded Buckwheat Zydeco Ils Sont Partis and the band with which he recorded two albums ( One For The Road, 1979; 100 % Fortified Zydeco, 1983). After he switched to Rounder Records, for with Turning Point (1983) and Waitin ' for My Ya- Ya ( 1986) was nominated for a Grammy Award.

As the first zydeco musician, he was able to conclude in 1986 a contract with a major label ( Iceland Records). In the album On a Night Like This (1987 ) him covered rock songs and mixed with traditional Zydeco R & B and pop. This album sold very well and went along with the soundtrack released at the same time to film The Big Easy - The Big Easy Buckwheat Zydeco widely known.
