Buddy Greco

Buddy Greco ( born August 14, 1926 in Philadelphia as Armando Greco ) is an American pop singer, and jazz pianist.

Life and work

Greco began four years old playing the piano with his father, a music critic. From 1945 to 1949 he led his own trio; 1949-1952 brought him Benny Goodman in his band as a pianist, singer and arranger. As a pianist he is arrested bebop; as a singer, he chose the mid-1950s for a more commercial stance and interpreted mainly standards, also from the Country field. He appeared in the casinos and big clubs from Las Vegas to Monte Carlo. Together with the Beatles, he played for Elizabeth II.

Greco has mainly recorded for Columbia / Epic, but also for Reprise and other independent labels. His most successful single is his version of The Lady Is a Tramp, which was located in the United States more than a million copies sold and therefore awarded a gold record. In 1969 he had with the album Movin 'On for the last time a major hit. It then occurred mainly at his club in Cathedral City, which closed in 2009. In the early 1990s he toured with The Salute to the Benny Goodman band. 2008 Greco joined with his wife Lezlie Anders on in the UK with the BBC Big Band, but also at Ronnie Scott 's Jazz Club. In April 2010, he performed live on BBC Radio 2 with the BBC Concert Orchestra and toured also with the Swinging Las Vegas Legends show.

In addition, he also worked as an actor. He played a nightclub singer Lucky in the feature film The Girl Who Knew Too Much (1969). In 1967, he was next to drummer Buddy Rich and comedian George Carlin one of the moderators in the television series Away We Go. He is also involved in writing film music.
