Budolfi Church

The Sct. Budolfi Church in Aalborg is the cathedral of the Diocese of Aalborg the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Denmark.

History

The church under the patronage of St. Botolph was built around 1450 and 1554 imposed after the Reformation, the later than in the rest of Denmark began in Aalborg Episcopal Church.

In place of the present church previously stood a wooden church and two Romanesque churches. By 1450 the first nave was built in the Gothic style, the tower was first followed from 1778 to 1780. It has a Gothic canopy and can be found on the coat of arms of the city. 1817 four watches were attached to the tower on the south side of a sundial. Three bells hanging in the tower. Major alterations took place in the years 1860, 1886 and 1898-1890. Today the church is 56 meters long and 22 meters wide.

Equipment

In 1500, the arch was decorated with murals. Its status as a cathedral reflected in the ornate inventory resist: The altarpiece is Baroque, was created in 1689 by Lauridtz Jensen and shows held in dark tones Golgotha ​​in golden frame. The present organ is on the west gallery and was distributed in 1959 with 40 stops on three manuals and pedal built by Marcussen & Son from Aabenraa, while the organ façade in 1749 has been preserved. Since the Rückpositiv only back to the new organ, this was designed by Leopold Teschl. As the style, however, did not fit the rest of the church, the facade in 2007 has been adjusted.
