Budyonny horse

The Budjonny is a Warmblood horse breed from Russia.

Exterior

Budjonnys originated from crosses of the breeds Donpferd and Thoroughbred. Croup and neck are very muscular, the noble head, legs long and thin. The withers are high and pronounced. The tail is set high, the hooves are hard. Mane and tail are medium long and thin. On fur colors are associated with Budjonnys mainly foxes and brown, but also centimes. Especially the foxes often have a metallic gold sheen in the coat, which you can find at many Russian breeds. The gaits are ground covering, the gallop persevering and fast.

Interior

Budjonnys have character features of the breeds from which they are derived - English thoroughbreds and Donpferde. Budjonnys have a strong character, high intelligence and are very spirited, which requires an experienced man in dealing with the horses. Budjonnys regarded as a one-man horse, which means that the trustee of such a horse can count on the reliability of his four-legged partner and employees, while it reacts rather reluctant to unknown people. Foals grow into Russia free running in the steppe on promoting their great endurance and sure-footedness and turns them into good ground horses. Due to their intelligence, they are riding horses, think for themselves and look in difficult terrain autonomously their way. These properties as well as the semi-wild breeding in Russia they meet strangers suspiciously. A new caregiver must earn the trust and cooperation of the Budjonnys only. A form of entertainment with large, also year-round exit options meets the urge to move the Budjonnys and is not a problem because of its robustness.

Breeding history

In the twenties of the 20th century the breed of Marshal Semyon Mikhailovich Budjonny was established as a cavalry horse. He crossed Don horse and English thoroughbred. Breeding goal was a rideable, fast horse could live year-round in herding in the steppe. 1948, the breed was officially recognized. Previously used primarily as a riding horse in the army, Budjonnys are a widespread breed in Russia today. They are used especially for jumping tournaments which have a strong inflow used.
