Buffalo County (Wisconsin)
The Buffalo County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010, the County had 138 587 inhabitants and a population density of 78.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Alma, named after the Ukrainian river Alma.
Geography
The County is located in western Wisconsin, on the east bank of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Minnesota. It has an area of 1838 square kilometers, of which 65 square kilometers are water surface. At the Buffalo County borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Buffalo County was formed in 1853 from parts of Trempealeau County. It was named after the Buffalo River.
Population
According to the census in 2010 lived in Buffalo County 13,587 people in 5754 households. The population density was 78.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 5754 households lived statistically 2.34 per person.
The racial the population was composed of 98.2 percent white, 0.4 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 0.8 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 1.9 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
21.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 59.7 percent were between 18 and 64 and 19.0 percent were 65 years or older. 49.2 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was $ 46,073. The per capita income was $ 23,240. 10.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
