Buford is a city in Gwinnett and Hall counties in the U.S. state of Georgia. The city is located about 40 km northeast of Atlanta in the direction of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the middle of Atlanta- Sandy Springs - Gainesville metropolitan area and has over 12,000 inhabitants.

The city's name comes from Algernon Sidney Buford, a president of the Atlanta and Richmond Air -Line Railway, which in 1871 and the connection from Atlanta to the north to South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia here.

History

Originally Buford Cherokee area that was ceded in 1817 as part of a contract with the United States. Nevertheless, until the second half of the 19th century outweighed the Indian population. After completion of the railroad Buford is founded as a Town on 24 August 1872 finally changed in 1896 in the City of Buford.
