Bufuka

Bufuka is a village on the eastern shore of Lake Bunyonyi, in the region around Kitumba seven kilometers outside the town of Kabale in southwestern Uganda. In this village 350 people, mostly members of the Bakiga tribe live, and three islands fall under his administration.

AIDS brought great suffering Bufuka. The reason for the outbreak was one of the Uganda Railway 's employees from Bufuka. Many men followed him into the city to find work and brought the disease back. Today live in Bufuka mainly older women and orphans.

Among the maritime towns, Bufuka is the district capital of Kabale the next, so tourists came first to Bufuka - in 1960 the first hotel was built. Today the building is a ruin but there are now five more hotels in Bufuka.

The twice weekly farmers market is held in the market area Rutindo. The central place of the village is a peninsula on which the Protestant church. The Bufuka primary school, which was started in 1938, was an offshoot of the Church.
