Bugey

The Bugey ( Pagus Belliceusis ) with the main town of Belley is a landscape in the southeast of the French département of Ain. The area lies to the west and south of Bellegarde- sur -Valserine in a loop of the Rhône. In the southern part, the Bas- Bugey, in Saint- Vulbas is the Bugey nuclear power plant with five reactors. The northern part, the skin -Bugey yet heard geologically to the foothills of the Jura.

The Bugey belonged in the Middle Ages to Savoy and was on 17 January 1601 - together with the Bresse and the Pays de Gex - ceded by the Treaty of Lyon in France. As this was also the Bugey until the French Revolution of the province of Burgundy.
