Buggenhout is a Belgian municipality located in the Denderstreek in the Flanders region with 14,237 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012). It consists of the eponymous capital of and the portion of municipality Opdorp and the hamlets Briel and Opstal. The community is known for its forest, the Buggenhout - bos, the largest state forest of East Flanders, in which the forest chapel of Buggenhout is that marks the geographical center of the Flemish Community, not far from the border triangle of the provinces of East Flanders, Antwerp and Flemish Brabant.

Dendermonde is located 6 kilometers west, Mechlin 20 km to the east, Brussels 22 km southeast and 26 km north-east of Antwerp.

The next highway exits are, inter alia, at Lokeren and Sint -Niklaas in the northwest on the A14 / E 17 in Aalst and Ternat on the south by the A10 / E 40 and 19 at Mechelem to the east of the A1 / E Buggenhout has a regional railway station on the line Gent - Dendermonde - Buggenhout - Mechelen. History

In the Carolingian period to the eleventh century Buggenhout was in Brabantgau. After that it was up to the end of the 18th century part of the district of the Duchy of Brabant Brussels. Opdorp

Opstal

Opstal means as much as " common pasture " could make claims referring to the Middle Dutch language use in areas in which no personal right of use. Briel

Den Briel or Briel is a borough and parish, situated on the River Scheldt between Baasrode and Sint- Amand, and consists of two parts, namely the larger southern and eastern old Briel, including the present-day church square, as well as the northwestern new Briel, the partially belongs to Buggenhout and partly to Baasrode ( since 1976 part of Dendermonde ) near the Baasrode -Noord Railway Station. Probably the present Briel the oldest living core of Baceroth region that extended from Vlassenbroek until after Mariekerke and was once known as Cuytelghem. Briel was part of it, but the name Cuytelghem disappeared in favor of Briel, so the whole area will henceforth be called that.

Brouwershuis Van Damme
