Bugtraq

Bugtraq is a mailing list, the topics of computer security is dedicated. It identifies the vulnerabilities in computer programs, opportunities for exploitation (known exploits ) and approaches to close these gaps discussed. Bugtraq is a mailing list with a large number of contributions, since almost all new vulnerabilities are addressed here.

Bugtraq was founded on November 5, 1993 by Scott Chasin, to respond to the perceived inability of the then existing security infrastructure on the Internet, specifically the cert. It was bugtraqs aim to publish vulnerabilities regardless of possible reactions of the affected software vendors promptly and completely.

Elias Levy remarked in an interview that " the conditions were at that time so that the manufacturers did not provide any updates. The focus was therefore on how you could improve software that was not improved by its manufacturer. "

Originally, the mailing list was open, but due to increasing useless posts the list on June 5, 1995, edited. Elias Levy presented the list of 14 June 1996 until his resignation on 15 October 2001.

Bugtraq was originally hosted at Crimelag.de. The list was the Brown University Netspace Project transfer, which was reorganized as the Netspace Foundation. In July 1999, SecurityFocus Bugtraq property of the company, which in turn was acquired on 6 August 2002 by the U.S. software company Symantec.
