Buhera District

Buhera is a small town and a rural district of the eastern highlands of 5369.23 km ² with a population of 203 739 (1992 ) in the province of Manicaland in Zimbabwe. The place is located near the Strait of Chivhu after Chipinge.

The district was once a profitable agricultural area. Since the expropriation of white farmers, it is one of the problem areas of the country where malnutrition is a dominant theme. The collapse of commercial agriculture has let the crops to a quarter of the former amount in 2005 and fall in 2006, instead of 2.4 million tons, only 600,000. In addition, the district Buhera is populated by supporters of an apostolic sect who refuse medical treatments. As the beginning of 2006 the cholera broke out, because not covered wells were contaminated by rain water, very high numbers of casualties were here to complain.
