BuildMoNa

The " Leipzig School of Natural Sciences - Building with Molecules and Nano - objects" BuildMoNa is a graduate school at the University of Leipzig. It is used for structured, interdisciplinary training of doctoral students in the fields of physics, chemistry and life sciences. The Graduate School BuildMoNa was founded in November 2007 as part of the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments and is a class at the Research Academy Leipzig. Up to 100 doctoral students are members of BuildMoNa.

Research

The abbreviation BuildMoNa stands for " Building with Molecules and Nano - objects", ie " Building with Molecules and Nano- objects ". This represents the scientific content of the graduate school and the area, do research on the doctoral students together with the supervising professors. Scientific objective is, inter alia, the manufacture and testing of new forms of matter that follows the design principles of active, living matter. It will be used in this case preferably self-organization processes to produce from smaller building blocks like molecules, scaffolding and nanostructures of these complex materials which have a variety of applications ( bottom- up approach). Some of the application areas that are in common with industrial partners, many of them in central Germany, edited, selective catalysts, biosensors, cell manipulation, artificial tissues, nanophotonics and photovoltaics.

Doctoral training

The aim of the structured doctoral training is the promotion rer within three years with the completion of Dr.. nat. to obtain. The doctoral students are systematically taught in addition to their research activities on interdisciplinary aspects and links of research in physics, chemistry and life sciences in teaching modules and introduced to the Constitution of publications in international scientific journals. Other offerings are industry internships at partner companies abroad, visits to international conferences and key qualification modules.
