Bulanık, Ardanuç

Bulanık is a village ( Turkish Köy ) in the district Ardanuç in the Artvin province in northeastern Turkey. For 2010, the Statistical Office registered 393 inhabitants. The agricultural settlement on a mountain slope is characterized by a relatively large number of barns and cowsheds in solid log construction. The name Bulanık got the village in the 20th century. The former village name was transcribed as Lengethev (i) or Longuthev, the linguist Sevan Nisanyan emanating from a Georgian origin of the name.

Location

Bulanık is about 55 road miles southeast of the provincial capital of Artvin and 15 km in the same direction from the small town Ardanuç located at the east side of the valley of the Ardanuç River ( Ardanuç Çay, also Bulanık ), which rises on the northern slope of up to 2840 meters high Yalnızçam mountain range and in the Berta Suyu opens. At the junction branches off a side road from the highway 10 and runs Ardanuç Valley, which in places narrows to a gorge with steep rocky slopes. Behind the town Ardanuç the valley is slightly wider. From the street, a not asphalted driveway overcomes one kilometers up through meadows to Bulanık. Three kilometers after the town in a north-westerly direction this way reach the ruined church Yeni Rabat, which probably belongs to the former Georgian monastery Schatberdi. Between pastures, a change from pine with oak forests.

Townscape

The picturesque village stretches over a mile in mid- slope. At the entrance there is a drinking trough for cattle, at the top end of town a drinking fountain. While the cattle shelters and food storage are made ​​with solid materials as log houses of logs, made ​​the building from modern lightweight hollow bricks or from simple wooden walls. The houses are made ​​less stable than the storage and stables with its traditional architecture. The agriculture is mainly based on cattle breeding. For self-sufficiency potatoes and vegetables are grown. A grocery store does not exist.
