Bulgan (city)

Bulgan (Mongolian Булган ) is the capital of Bulgan Aimag ( province ) in Mongolia.

Location and size

Bulgan is 1208 m.ü.d.M. and counts 11000 inhabitants. The distance to Ulan Bator has 468 km, the nearest large city, Erdenet, 68 km away.

History and cityscape

Bulgan was founded in 1938. Unlike many other towns in Mongolia, most residents Bulgans not live in yurts, but in wooden houses, as because of the wooded area of the city is wood as a building material in sufficient quantity.

Attractions

On the southern edge located in a museum converted military base, in 1921 set up in a building built in 1668. In the main street in the city center, another museum is worth seeing in the next agricultural equipment, among others is reminiscent of the first Mongolian in space, the cosmonauts J. Gurragschaa. Traffic

The airport of Bulgan (UGA / ZMBN ) has an unpaved runway. He has frequent flights to and from Ulan Bator and also serves as a stopover for some of the western aimags. Between Bulgan Erdenet and Ulaanbaatar buses stop.

Environment

The 1600 -hectare nature reserve uranium Togoo - Tulga is visited because of the extinct volcanoes of which the uranium Uul is the most famous, a lot. It is approximately 60 km west of Bulgan.
