The Bulgarian national ice hockey team ( Bulgarian Национален отбор по хокей на България ) is currently 32nd in the IIHF World Ranking (as of May 2011) and plays at the Ice Hockey World Championships in Division II

History

The greatest success of the national team was to participate in the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1976. After a 1:14 in the first round against Czechoslovakia and five other defeats in the placement round you finally finished the tournament in twelfth and thus last.

Last played in Bulgaria, which participates in IIHF World Championships since 1963, at the Ice Hockey World Championship for Men in 2013 in the group B of Division II, which was held in the Turkish city of Izmit. After defeats to New Zealand ( 5:10 ), China ( 6:9 ), Mexico ( 7:8 aet), Israel ( 2:13 ) and host Turkey ( 3:6 ) finished the Bulgarian national team won the Championship by one point on the sixth and last place. For the first time since winning the D- 1998 World Cup the team got back from the lowest division of the Ice Hockey World Championships.
