The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences ( Bulgarian Българска академия на науките, short БАН, en: Bulgarian Academy of Sciences ( BAS). ) Is the national academy of sciences in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian abbreviation is БАН / BAN.

History

The Academy of Sciences was founded on September 26, 1869 during the Ottoman Empire, first as Bulgarian Literary Society ( Българско книжовно дружество ) in Braila Romania in the Kingdom established by the local Bulgarian exile society. The first Board of Trustees was Nikolai Tsenov ago as president.

From 1870 onwards, the first time the Academy journal was published. First honorary member in 1871 Gavril Krastewitsch ( 1820-1898 ).

1878 was moved to the independence of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule of the office of the Company to Sofia. On 1 March 1893, the company moved into its own building near the Bulgarian Parliament building. On March 6, 1911, the Bulgarian Literary Society was renamed under President Ivan Geschow in "Bulgarian Academy of Sciences". In 1913 the academician of the "Union of Slavic academies and scientific societies " of St Petersburg, and 1931 member of the International Council for Science.

From 1940 to 1947, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was temporarily Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Arts ( Bulg Българска академия на науките и изкуствата ).

Organization

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is divided into three main departments, the department of natural sciences, mathematics and engineering sciences, the Department of Bio -, Medical and Agricultural Sciences and the Department of Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts. There are numerous independent scientific institutes, laboratories and other scientific institutions.

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has its own publishing house, LAP Publishing " Prof. Marin Drinow ".
