Bully-les-Mines

Bully- les -Mines is a commune with 12,726 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Pas -de- Calais, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. It is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the Canton of Bully- les -Mines in the arrondissement of Lens. The place is also part of the Communaupole de Lens - Liévin, an agglomeration of 36 municipalities with some 250,000 inhabitants.

Geography

In the landscape Gohelle located to Bully- les -Mines is located in the north- west of Lens. Surrounded the town Mazingarbe in the north, Grenay in the northeast, Liévin the southeast, Aix- Noulette in the south and Sains -en- Gohelle in the West.

History

As a Gallo-Roman settlement of Pagus Silvinus was part of the settlement area of the Atrebates. From 862-1191 Bully belonged to the Counts of Flanders. Bully was destroyed several times. 1348 succumbed to a large part of the population of the plague.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Maclou with its bell tower is registered as a monument historique since 1984.
