Bumba, Democratic Republic of the Congo
Bumba is a major regional city in the Central African country of the Democratic Republic of Congo ( referred to 1998 as Zaire ).
Location
The city is located in the northern province of Equateur ( Mbandaka capital ) on the right bank of the Congo stream, just below the mouth of the river Itimbiri and about 600 km upstream from Mbandaka. The closest, almost equally large city is Lisala, 100 km west. The city of Kisangani ( Zaire skin, Orientale Province) is located 400 km further upstream (towards east-southeast ). The geographical coordinates of Bumba at 2.2 ° North and 22.5 ° East, the altitude of around 400 meters.
Population
Bumba has, according to an estimate in the year 2010 103.328 inhabitants ( census: 1984 51 197 inhabitants, and in 2005 95 514 Ew.. ). In the first democratic elections in October 2006, there were in the region of small riots between supporters of the two presidential candidates.
Traffic
The city is a trade hub between the river traffic and the narrow gauge railway direction Aketi - Isiro - Mungbere and Welle (river). The operation of the narrow-gauge railway was discontinued about 2003.
Religion
Bumba is the seat of the Diocese of Lolo.
