BUNCH

BUNCH ( German Pack ) was the nickname of a group of five large computer company, which was formed from the initials of these companies.

Predecessor

In the 60s there were eight in the U.S. computer company, the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs were called. IBM was the Snow White, Burroughs, UNIVAC, NCR ( National Cash Register ), Control Data, Honeywell, RCA ( Radio Corporation of America ) and General Electric were the seven dwarfs.

Formation

1970 General Electric sold its computer division to Honeywell. 1971, the computer field has been set by RCA. The initials of the remaining five dwarfs were " BUNCH ". They stand for Burroughs, Univac, NCR, Control Data and Honeywell and became the nickname of this group of computer companies.

Resolution

In the 1980s and 1990s BUNCH disbanded. Univac was acquired by Burroughs; it was created Unisys. Control Data adjusted the computer construction and Honeywell sold its computer business to Bull computer.
