State:

North Rhine -Westphalia

The Federal Highway 553 (abbreviated as BAB 553 ) - Short form: Highway 553 (abbreviated as A 553 ) - begins at the motorway junction Bliesheim as a continuation of A 1 in the direction straight ahead and from there to the northern edge of Brühl. It replaces in this area, the federal road 51

The original plan was to extend the highway to the A4 in the south of Cologne. Also, a cross-connection to the east was planned across the Rhine to the A 59. Both plans are not provided until further notice. The traffic in the south of Cologne, continues to use the heavily loaded state road 51 by Meschenich or Brühler tangent ( L 150/Kerkrader road ) that leads to a 555 Cologne -Bonn.

The planning of the A 553 was temporarily under the title A 533
