The Federal Financial Directorates ( BFD) have replaced the federal departments of the former regional finance offices on 1 January 2008 after the amendment of the Financial Management Act. Basis of this organizational change were the results of the project structure development inches.

The locations of the five federal financial directorates are:

The current customs and excise departments of the following regional tax offices were closed and the connected main customs offices ( HZÄ ) redistributed to the federal finance offices:

  • Chemnitz ( Dresden )
  • Hanover
  • Karlsruhe ( in Freiburg )
  • Koblenz ( in Neustadt on the Wine Route )
  • Cottbus ( in Potsdam)
  • Hamburg
  • Cologne and
  • Nuremberg.

Partly also Hauptzollämter issued to other federal tax offices in order to make the distribution and the workload of the districts evenly.
