The German real estate company m.b.H. (BIG) is one of the largest companies in the field of building management and new construction in Austria. It is 100 % owned by the Republic of Austria and administered for this large parts of the federal regulatory infrastructure. Their activity is regulated in the BIG Law of 17 July 1992 and its successor law, the Federal Property Act of 29 December 2000. The ownership function in BIG is perceived by the Minister of Economy, Family and Youth.

History

With the adoption of the BIG Law on 17 July 1992, the groundwork was laid for the establishment of the Federal mbH Prior to the administration of all federal buildings had lain in the individual federal states in the hands of the administration of federal buildings in Vienna and in the task pane of the Bundesbaudirektion Vienna. This step was made ​​in order to reduce costs and remove another cost center from direct government area. At the same time managed buildings should be organized market-oriented and economically. First, mainly university and federal school building as well as federal rental housing went into the possession of BIG. Only with the creation of the new federal real estate law in December 2000, the BIG has also been granted the contract to the new construction of federal buildings and exploitation no longer required properties.

Subsequently, in June 2006, until then run as a subsidiary property management company of the Federal mbH, in which the former employees of the administration of federal buildings had been taken over, integrated into the company.

Since its inception, the BIG has more than 500 new construction projects completed by its own account, with a total of 2.5 billion euro net. Currently, another 60 projects with a total of 625 million euros will be realized.

Business

The German real estate company defines six focus more business for themselves. These are portfolio management, asset management, property management, planning, development and implementation of construction projects, the CAD and space management and facility services.
