The opening of the U55 had to be postponed to 2009 after problems with the sandy soil during construction of the underground station Brandenburger Tor, Bundestag metro stations and train stations had already been completed.

Located directly above the station, between the Federal Chancellery and Paul Loebe House, the establishment of a citizens' forum was planned as part of the ribbon of government originally. The side galleries of the station should allow direct access to the Civic Forum, but now remain largely untapped.
