Geographical location

The Bunge country (Russian Земля Бунге, Zemlya Bunge, Yakut Бунге сирэ, Bunge Sirae ) is a large sandbank in the New Siberian Islands in the Arctic Ocean. Administratively, it is part of the Russian Republic of Sakha ( Yakutia).

Geography

The 6,200 km ² Bunge country as a land bridge connecting the island to the west with the island Kotelny Faddejewski in the east, which makes the composite land mass of around 23,200 km ² area the fourth largest island in Russia. The 6-8 m high and vegetation-free land-bridge, however, is regularly flooded during storms. Named the country after Alexander Bunge Bunge, a German - Russian physician and botanist.
