Bunzac

Bunzac is a southwestern French village with 474 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Charente in the Poitou -Charentes.

Location

Bunzac is about 110 meters above sea level. inst and about 21 km ( driving distance ) north-east of Angoulême or about 5 kilometers south of La Rochefoucauld. The neighboring Pranzac (about 4 kilometers south ) is also worth seeing.

Demographics

In the first census in France in 1793, the city had 480 inhabitants; afterwards remained, the population stable.

Economy

Bunzac lives mainly from agriculture, and viticulture. The place still belongs to the field of Bons Bois in the extreme east of the growing region of Cognac. Since the 1970s, the rental of apartments ( gîtes ) has been added as an important source of income of the village.

History

As the Romanesque church proves was the place was inhabited since the Middle Ages.

Attractions

  • The single-nave Romanesque church of Notre -Dame ( also formerly Saint -Symphorien ) is from the 12th century and stands on the eastern edge of the community. It is built mainly of roughly hewn stones, but still allow a masonry association; Buttresses, window frames and corners, however, are assembled from smooth and precisely hewn stones. The west facade of the church has a - complete neugefertigtes in the 19th century - repeatedly stepped back, but otherwise completely unadorned Archivolts portal with selected columns; about it there is a window. Noteworthy is the squat -looking, square in plan crossing tower with two sound holes in each of the four cardinal directions. The church has two transepts and an apsidal choir circuit with three - relatively large - windows; both components are offset by a large choir arch of barrel-vaulted nave. The church was incorporated in the year 1934 in the list of Monuments historiques.
  • Links the west portal of the church is a stone pedestal base with a monolithic column shaft and a cross essay.
  • From the former Château des Deffends only a parterre received with a double- curved staircase.
