Sichelblättriges Hare's Ear ( Bupleurum falcatum )

The Sichelblättrige Hare's Ear ( Bupleurum falcatum ), also known as sickle - hares ear, is scattered in Central Europe occurring Umbelliferae ( Apiaceae ). It flowers from July to October.

Appearance

The herbaceous perennial plant is about 60 to 150 cm tall and is a Hemikryptophyt. The stem is usually hergebogen more or less back and and usually branched way branching in the upper part. The crown is colored golden yellow. The fruit is smooth in young state, when ripe, it has a wing-like protruding ribs. It has a length of about 3.5 to 4 mm and is of ovoid shape.

Ecology

The Sichelblättrige Hare's Ear is a perennial plant stem, a Hemikryptophyt and a deep-rooting.

The flowers are golden yellow, " nectar leading disk flowers ". Pollinators are flies, Hymenoptera and beetles. Blooms from July to October.

The small gap fruits are Doppelachänen; they propagate as wind and animal shakers, probably also takes a random dispersal by grazing animals.

Habitat requirements and distribution

Bupleurum falcatum grows in dry scrub and dry forest communities. It prefers warm, lime-rich substrates.

The Sichelblättrige Hasenohr occurs in central and southern Europe and in temperate Asia. There is a Eurasian- continental sub-Mediterranean Florenelement. In Austria it is in the Pannonian area very often, otherwise rarely found. In Switzerland, the species occurs widely scattered.

Bupleurum falcatum is scattered spread over the central part of Germany to locally occurring. Moreover, it is only rarely and usually found inconsistent.
