Buran (Wind)

The Buran is a very strong storm blowing from the northeast, especially in the steppe and desert areas in northwest China's Xinjiang, on the lower Volga, Kazakhstan and Western Siberia.

There are two types:

• The Sommerburan, a sandstorm is oppressively hot and imports large quantities of dust or sand to. In the deserts of Lop Nor and Taklamakan it is also called Kara buran ( = black Buran ).
• The Winterburan other hand, is icy cold and swirls on especially snow and transported them further.

From the Winterburan the name is derived from the space shuttle Buran.
