Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières

The Bureau de Recherches et Geologiques Minières (abbreviation BRGM, dt Bureau of Geology and Mining Research) is the French national reference institute in the field of geosciences for raw materials and geological risks.

It was founded in 1959 as a successor to the Bureau de Recherches et Geologiques géophysiques ( BRGG ). The largest site of the Institute ( the Centre scientifique et technique ) is located in Orléans, the official residence in Paris. 2008, the Institute employed 850 people and had a budget of 82 million euros.

Since then, the "Service de la Carte Géologique " in 1968 merged with the BRGM, the BRGM is responsible for the geological mapping of France and the publication of geological maps.
