The castle stands Golling in Austria Golling an der Salzach, in the province of Salzburg. It is fairly large Austrian standards and is strategically important location on the river Salzach in Salzburg's most beautiful countryside.

History

Probably has already found a guard tower in Roman times to the well-protected by rock hill. From here the past leading Roman road could be observed. The nearby Pass Lueg between Hagengebirge and the Tennen mountains were already in the Bronze Age is an important transition, which proves the discovery of a ridge helmet.

A moth of wood could have been the precursor of the 13th century stone-built hilltop castle site. In 1325 it was the Kuchlern, a Salzburg noble family, over against a fee of 300 pounds of silver pennies. But soon they sold them to the Archbishop of Salzburg. From now on, ordered nurses were employed as manager of the Castle by the Archbishop.

1722 visited Prince Archbishop Franz Anton Harrach Castle and let them renovate and equip with a heated Fürstenzimmer.

Museum

1971 a museum was established at the castle. There, not only objects from the history of the castle, but also fossil finds from the area are on display. Not least because of the museum, but also because of the regularly held there in the summer events, the resort is a popular destination for locals and tourists.
