Castle Seebenstein

The Seebenstein castle stands in Lower Austria Seebenstein. The castle consists of two plants, the old part with a round keep and a ruined palace from the 13th/14th century. Century as well as the high castle from the 15th to the 17th centuries. In the latter there is a significant collection of weapons, Marie sculptures (such as Veit Stoss or until a few years ago even by Tilman Riemenschneider ) and a built in corner chapel.

History

The castle was founded in 1045 by Gottfried von Wels- Lambach and went about 1049 to the shape Bacher. After the mold Bacher became extinct in the 12th century, the castle came to the Wildenstein. 1170 a Kdolz of Seebenstein is called the first time.

In the following centuries the castle changed hands several times their owners, among them were the Liechtenstein ( 14th century), the Seebecker ( 1403-1432 ) and from 1432 the Königsberg. The latter constructed the current high castle the castle, which was in 1683 unsuccessfully besieged by the Turks. In the 17th century, the castle went to the Pergen, in the valley built a new castle and the castle above left to decay.

1790 leased Anton David Steiger, the castle and founded here the association of Wildenstein to the Blue Earth. The club was closed down in 1824, and a short time later, the Liechtenstein bought the castle. Johann I of Liechtenstein built the nearby castle ruins Türkensturz.

Since 1942, the castle is owned by the Nehammer family.

2012, the fairy tale adaptation of " Beauty and the Beast" with Maximilian Simonischek, Cornelia Groeschel and Jürgen Tarrach was filmed at the castle.
