Burgenland state election, 1991

The state elections in Burgenland in 1991 was conducted on 23 June 1991 was the 16th state election in the Austrian province of Burgenland. In the election, the Social Democratic Party of Austria ( SPÖ) was after the heavy losses stabilize again in the regional elections in 1987 and reached a vote share of 48.1 %, an increase of 0.8%. This ensured the SPÖ again 17 out of 36 seats. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP ), however, continued their downward trend and lost for the eighth time in a row share of the vote. With 38.2 % of the vote, the ÖVP lost 3.3% of their mandates. The ÖVP presented in the following 15 Member of Parliament. Choice winner of this election was the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ ), which won 2.4% and added 9.7% won a mandate to their previous three mandates. The Green Alternative (GAL ) failed with 3.4% as early as 1987 on the entry into the state parliament, the first time the nominee Free Democratic Party (FDP) missed with 0.6 %. The Communist Party of Austria ( CPA ) did not compete for the first time since 1945.
