Burgenlandkreis

The castle district is a district in Saxony -Anhalt, which was created as part of the second Administrative Reform on 1 July 2007 from the old castle district and the district of Weissenfels.

The district covers an area of ​​1414 km ². The county seat is Naumburg ( Saale).

Geography

The county is located on the southern border of Saxony-Anhalt, he bordered on the west and south by Thuringia and Saxony in the east.

To the north it borders on the Saale district, in the north- east by the Saxon Leipzig district, on the east by the Thuringian district Altenburger Land, in the south of the Thuringian district-free city Gera and the districts Greiz, Saale- Holzland and Weimar area and on the west by which also Thuringian counties Sömmerda and Kyffhauserkreis.

The Unstrut exceeds in the northwest of the county in Wendelstein the border of Thuringia with Saxony -Anhalt and ends at Naumburg in Blütengrund in the Saale. The Saale exceeds in Großheringen / Kleinheringen in the southwest border of Thuringia with Saxony -Anhalt and leaves in the northeast at Wengelsdorf the county in the district Saale. History

The castle district was created by the decision taken by the Parliament of Saxony- Anhalt in October 2005, the district reform on 1 July 2007. Here, the hitherto existing castle district merged with the district of Weissenfels. As the chart name Landesverwaltungsamt County Burgenland had determined. In the council meeting on 16 July 2007, but the majority voted for the old name of the Burgenland district. The decisive factors were mainly the cost of the renaming. Economy and infrastructure

The castle district is part of the central German economic region Halle- Leipzig -Dessau and is a major business hub in the south of Saxony-Anhalt. The region may have recourse to a traditional economic structure with a mix of industries from industry, SMEs and crafts.

The construction of the new high-speed rail plan Erfurt-Leipzig/Halle is determined and has in the far west of the county started ( at Laucha ) 2006 partially. After the completion of the Naumburg ( Saale ) Hbf Bahnhof is expected to lose its status as ICE stop.

Road network
