Burgk

Burgk is a municipality in the Thuringian Saale- Orla-Kreis. Fulfilling community for Burgk is Remptendorf.

Geography

Burgk is located on a hill above the Saale River, west of Schleiz. In addition to the core community Burgk even includes the hamlets of Burgkhammer across from the dam and Isabelle Green to the community. With a population density of just under 7 inhabitants per square kilometer Burgk is the least populated municipality in Thuringia.

History

Burgk was 1291 ersterwähnt documented.

Between 1616 and 1697 was Burgk Residenzort the county Reuss- Burgk.

In the 20th century was in Burgkhammer on balancing reservoir of Bleilochtalsperre a Cardboard and Paper Mill. In 1943, lost in a broken out in the factory fire 14 military internees from Italy their lives. They were buried in the cemetery Möschlitzer on the road to Burgk where a memorial stone at her. Before the castle gate a farm was served to supply the castle - dwellers. On the eastern side were formerly two stables for the horses of the farm. The arrangement meant the removal of the remaining students to Schleiz HOTEL GOLDEN SUN. The already 16- year-old students were sent out late 1944 to the war effort to Dusseldorf. Just 12 days later, after the swap to Schleiz on April 8, 1945, 21 students died following a bombing raid (see History Schleiz )! The former " stables " today " to Castle Terrace " used as coffee.

Since 1999 Remptendorf is fulfilling community for Burgk, previously it was part of the administrative community hall castle.

Culture and sights

Sight of Burgk is Burgk castle on the Saale. Of particular interest is the chapel in which a valuable Silbermann organ is located as well as the medieval fortifications. The hall tower, a wooden watch-tower, built in 2011.
