Burglinde Pollak

Burglinde Pollak, married Grimm, ( born June 10, 1951 in Alt- Plötzin ) is a former German athlete who had - starting for the GDR - from the late 1960s to 1980 was one of the world's top five fighters. She won two bronze medals at the Olympic Games.

Life

She won the 1968 European Junior games, precursors of the later European Junior Championships, the gold medal. At the European Championships the following year, she reached eighth place. At the European Championships in 1971 she won the silver medal. In its first part in the Olympics in Munich in 1972 she came third.

1974 Pollak was again Vice - European Champion and the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, she won the bronze medal again. In 1978 she became the third consecutive second at the European Championships. In Moscow, she arrived at the 1980 Olympic Games in sixth place. In 1981, she tried to get a foothold in the newly introduced heptathlon, but had trouble with the new discipline javelin.

Although Pollak did not win a major title, but improved three world records. She set her first world record in 1970 ( 5406 points) and after the introduction of a new points table 1973 two more ( 4831 points, 4932 points).

Burglinde Pollak started for the ASK Potsdam and had a size of 1.80 m, a competition weight of 78 kg. In the becoming public knowledge after the fall of documents on doping in the GDR was found in the doped athletes also the name of Pollak.

Following her playing career, she was a physiotherapist and opened his own practice.
