Castle ruins Gomarn

The extended Bautenanlage the ruins Gomarn lies on the back of a hill in Bad St. Leonhard in the Lavant Valley.

Specifications

The oldest part of the castle is the thick-walled dungeon with a square base and was built in 1300. The partially preserved, four-story ruins date from the 15th century. The city wall is built in the southwest and thus an important part of the fortification.

History

Presented for the possession of the diocese of Bamberg in the Lavant Valley the passed by Henry II Konigsgut ( partly as allods, partly as a fief ) undoubtedly the basis of the estate to Wolfsberg Represents the diocese took no less than three centuries, to derive the relatively large, enclosed possession complexes to shape Wolfsberg in the Lavant Valley and from Villach to Pontafel / Pontebba in Tarvis. The ruins Gomarn, first mentioned on the Schlossberg in a deed of the year 1287, was once the seat bambergischer administrator. In 1762 the castle was destroyed by fire and was burning for rapid restoration in 1808 down again. The spacious courtyard is now used as a venue.
