Castle ruins Liebenfels

The ruin of Liebenfels is a twin castle on a rocky outcrop northeast of the community Liebenfels in the district Sankt Veit an der Glan, the historic Central Region of Carinthia ( Austria ). The resulting components are from the Romanesque period through the Renaissance.

History

Liebenfels was first mentioned in 1312 as Liewenvelse documented. Between 1484 and 1490 the castle was conquered by the Hungarians occupied and was thereby partially destroyed. From this occupation bulwark remains date back underneath the medieval system.

Plant

Noteworthy are the two massive mountain peace from the 13th/14th century. Century, which are separated by the unusually extended forecastle. The larger of the two towers consists of six storeys and formed the core of the very small and heavily fortified stronghold. This dungeon has conspicuous groups of windows on the top floor, which were interpreted as a signal of FX Kohla window. Even today, the significance of this window is unclear. In the south-west corner of the outer bailey extended, close the door, is the second viergeschössige keep.

The stronghold, which is grouped around the larger keep, also includes the former palace, which was executed amazingly narrow and thus very little living space offered. In the north-west corner there is a striking five-part group that points to a block Werkstube.

The facility is surrounded by a beautiful gothic ring wall with preserved battlements. The castle chapel and the newer and more spacious residential building, which adjoins the stronghold in the west, from the Renaissance era.
