Castle ruins Liemberg

The ruins Liemberg located in Carinthia west to the same place in the community Liebenfels on the steeply sloping Göseberges.

Built in the 12th century system mainly consists of a Romanesque Vorwerk round tower of about 9 meters in diameter, a well-preserved Gothic castle keep and even more recently structurally altered Palas. Due to their small size, these rather unusual castle is underestimated.

Built in rocky steps below the castle Vorwerk was adapted as a chaste and is still inhabited.

History

The area around the castle was used in prehistoric and Roman times. The oldest written mention of Liemberg dates from the year 1167 ( Wolfpertus de Liebenberch ). There are reports of damage from the earthquake of Friuli 1348 To 1688 Liemberg Valvasor as the "old anjetzo gantz oede and abandoned castle only to look upon like a Thurn " means.
