Geography

Geographical location

The municipality is situated approximately 20 kilometers south-east of Nuremberg between the Ludwig- Danube -Main Canal and the river Schwarzach. The community Thann castle is located on the southeastern edge of the district Nürnberger Land and borders the Region of Upper Palatinate.

History

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, the formerly independent communities Dörlbach, Ezelsdorf, Grub, Oberferrieden, Schwarzenbach and sub ​​Ferri Eden were incorporated. Then there was the previously the municipality Altenthann belonging district Pattenhofen.

Burgthann

Museums

Fire departments

To ensure fire safety in the greater community, many of the districts have their own volunteer fire: Thann castle, Ezelsdorf, Mimberg, Oberferrieden, sub Ferri Eden, Grub, Schwarzenbach and Pattenhofen.

Since 2003, the brigades of the upper and lower Ferri Eden have a common fire station between the two towns. But still, the two fire departments remain organisationally independent.
