Burgundofara

The hl. Fara, also Burgundofara, Old High German the driving end (* about 595 in Poincy; † 3 April at 656 Faremoutiers ) is a monastery founder, abbess and saint of the Catholic Church. Your feast day is December 7. The hl. Fara is called as a helper for eye diseases.

Legend

Fara came from the Frankish noble family of the Burgundofarones that were Burgundian origin and probably had in the east of Paris, in the vicinity of Meaux possession. Her father was Chagnerich, a close confidant of the king Theudebert II, the mother's name was Leudegund. According to tradition, was in the year 610 hl. Columbanus of Luxeuil guest in the family home and blessed at parting Fara and her siblings. When her father wanted to marry her, she resisted and announced to want to lead a monastic life. Then the father would not give her desire, she fell seriously ill and became blind. Only through the blessing of St.. Eustasius, a pupil of Columban, she became healthy again. Her father was in the place Eboriacum, at the confluence of the streams Aubetin and Grand Morin, a monastery built in the Fara was abbess. The monastery followed first the strict rule of St.. Columban, later the Benedictine rule has been introduced. Fara died around 656 in the monastery, which was later called after her Faremoutiers ( Farae monasterium ), and was buried there. Representation in art
