Burin Peninsula

Geographical location

The peninsula of Burin (English Burin Peninsula ) is one of the southern peninsulas addition to the Avalon Peninsula in eastern Newfoundland (Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador ).

In the summer a ferry to Saint -Pierre and Miquelon.

In 1929 entered in the territory of Neufundlandbänke ( Grand Banks ) on the continental plate termination at the edge of the old Laurentian plate ( see Laurentia, terranes, plate tectonics ) a quake with a magnitude of 7.2 on, which was still noticeable in Nova Scotia. It has been speculated this quake was caused by the raising of the once depressed from Glazialeis crust.

The Burin Peninsula was hit by a tsunami, which ( in other specified 51 victims ) called 28 victims, thus far the worst earthquake in Canadian history ( Newfoundland was still an independent state ).
