Burkhard Balz

Burkhard Balz ( born July 24, 1969 in Lemgo ) is a German politician ( CDU). He is member of the European Parliament for the Hanover region, the counties Diepholz, Hameln- Pyrmont, Nienburg and Schaumburg since 2009.

His main topics include the new European Banking Authority, the capital requirements for insurance companies ( Solvency II) as well as the monitoring of the rating agencies.

Life and career

After graduating from high school in 1988 in Hagen, he did his national service with the Army Aviation School in Achum. After an apprenticeship as a banker in Hanover from 1989 to 1991 he took up studies in law and political science at the Georg -August- University of Göttingen that he graduated in 2000 with the first state exam.

Since 2000, he worked at Commerzbank in Hanover, Frankfurt, Tokyo, London and Brussels, last up to July 2009, he took in as a department manager in Hanover from his position as European parliamentarians.

Courtship is married to his wife Susanne since 1996 and has a son with her since 2001.

Party

Burkhard Balz was in July 1985 Member of the Junge Union in Schaumburg, later he became district chairman. Since 1989 he has been in the CDU. He was from 1991 to 2011 in the council of the district of Schaumburg, and since November 1991 the city council of the city of Hagen. From 2002 to 2006 Balz held the office of county chairmen of the CDU Schaumburg. Since 2003 he has been Deputy Chairman of the CDU district Hannover.Seit August 2010 he is a member of the national executive of the CDU Lower Saxony.

Balz is a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON ) and here Vice - Coordinator of the Group of the European People's Party ( Christian Democrats) (EPP ) and a member of the Budget Committee. He belongs to the European Parliament delegation to the ASEAN countries ( DASE ) as a full member and the delegation of the European Parliament with the People's Republic of China ( D -CN) as Alternate Member.

From 2009 to 2011, he was a member of the Special Committee of the European Parliament on the Financial Economic and Social Crisis. Balz also negotiated the compromise on the three future EU supervisory agencies for banking, insurance and securities dealers with central punch-through rights, allowing monitoring of the rating agencies was possible and was involved in the process of regulating hedge funds after the financial crisis.

He was the rapporteur of the Parliament for the new capital requirements for insurance companies in Europe and the introduction of the euro in Latvia

Courtship is a member of the European Union Parliamentarians European Parliament.

Since 2007, he serves on the board of the German investment company Apaton Capital AG, based in Hanover. In addition, since April 2012, he acts as steward of the building society Schwäbisch Hall AG.
