Burkhard I, Count of Zollern

Burkhard I of Zollern ( de Zolorin ), also Burchard of Zollern, († 1061 ), the first mentioned in a reliable source of Hohenzollern.

Life

At the origin of the Zollern much remains in the dark. Earlier scholars had wrongly assumed from the name, Burkhard would come from the medieval gender of Burchard Inger. Leave Historically reliable statements about the origin Burkhard, is not possible.

In the annals of the Reichenau monk Berthold 1061 killed Burchardus et Wezil de Zolorin be mentioned. A relationship to each other is not assignable, although in later sources, this is assumed. Whether the nobles have fallen in a feud or not, is not made clear in the minutes of the monk.

For his father, it could be either Friedrich, a Count in Sülichgau ( corresponding to today's district of Tübingen ). The parent Irmentrud, daughter of Count Burkhard of Nellenburg is suspected. Next is known Hohenzollern Frederick I.
