Burkittsville is a village in Frederick County in the U.S. state of Maryland. In the 2000 census, the village had 171 inhabitants in an area of 1.1 km ². Burkittsville is located on the border of Washington County near the Gathland State Park. Burkittsville became known by the pseudo - documentary " Blair Witch Project " in 1999, despite playing here, but for the most part did not originate here.

History

Burkittsville in 1824 initially in two parts by the two landowners Major Joshua Harley (as western half: "Harley 's Post Office " ) and Henry Burkitt founded.
