Burney Treaty
The Burney Treaty ( Burney Treaty, Thai: สนธิสัญญา เบอร์ นี ) was a friendship and trade agreement between Siam and Great Britain from 1826 The contract is named after the British envoy of the British East India Company, Henry Burney ( 1792-1845 ). .
History
The Anglo - Siamese treaty was first negotiated in 1822 between the Scottish physician and anthropologist John Crawfurd and King Rama II of Siam, but it could not bring to a conclusion the contract. This was the British economist Henry Burney under King Rama III. in 1826.
Content
In the contract the Siamese sovereignty was confirmed by the northern states of Kedah Malays, Kelantan, Perlis and Terengganu. At the same time British rule in Penang and whose law was guaranteed on undisturbed trade with Kelantan and Terengganu. Although the contract refers to the Malay States, they were not involved in the negotiations.
Detachment
