Burpee L. Steeves

Burpee Laban Steeves (* July 7, 1868 in Albert County, New Brunswick, Province of Canada, † October 23, 1933 in Salem, Oregon ) was an American politician. Between 1905 and 1907 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Idaho.

Career

At the age of five years Burpee Steeves came to Prince Edward Iceland, where he later graduated from Prince of Wales College. Until 1888 he worked as a teacher. After a subsequent medical studies at Willamette University and his 1894 was admitted as a doctor, he started in Silverton to work in this profession. In 1897 he moved his residence and his doctor's office to Idaho. There he hit as a member of the Republican Party also a political career.

Steeves was elected in 1904 on the side of Frank Gooding Vice Governor of Idaho. This post he held between January 2, 1905 and January 7, 1907. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After his time as Lieutenant Governor Steeves worked in Salem as ear, nose and throat doctor. In 1914 he was elected for one year as mayor of Salem. He then continued his medical career. In 1918 he was elected president of the Oregon State Medical Association. This office he held until 1920. He died on October 23, 1933 in Salem, where he was also buried.
